Default Barnsfold Trout Fishery, Lancashire

Anyone fancy a trip to Barnsfold Saturday for a fish? Looking like best day for the weather this weekend anyway. Anyone fished there recently? If so how was it fishing and what where they taking?

Hi Craz, I lived in Leyland for many years at Worden Park, and used to fish at Twinlakes when it first opened.
Hows it doing now? my daughter lives in Croston so I must make a visit next time.
Don't think iv'e ever fished at Barnsfold, where exactly is it?
Cheers Steven

Barnsfold is at its best from now until late May - you should have a good time.

Two words: Suspender buzzer

Hi mrtrout,

34 years in Leyland for me, lived here since I was 5.

Twin lakes is down to 1 lake for trout now, they turned the other into any method coarse fishery. If you come down visiting and go for a fish give us a PM if you fancy a get together. Heard it's fishing a bit better over the past couple of weeks when it hasn't been so windy.

Barnsfold is here It's about 5 miles NE of Preston. 2 lakes of 11 acres stocking bows, brown, blue and tigers. Web link here but it's not been updated since last year. Still, ticket prices not to bad. Never fished it myself yet but fancy giving it a try as I've heard it's good fishing.

Craz,

Tie a black buzzer with some foam at the head and you've got it. Keep em small - I find a size 14 or 16 works best at Barnsfold.
If the trout are 'head and tailing' as they often are at this time of year, don't fish dry, don't fish sub surface...fish a suspender and I guarantee you will catch a lot of fish.

M.

Hope the shop there is stocked with em then I don't have any foam for tying suspender buzzers

Are there any substitutes to foam?

I like Barnsfold, its a ****** to find the first few times, well, when I say ****** I mean a complete nightmare, it might be easier with a sat nav though. Ive always found it to be a fishery that rewards good fishing skills. Quite often this means dropping down to small flies on a light leader so dont be afraid to keep scaling down. I also like Franks pricing policy; although he does have set prices he will always tailor a ticket to suit. Have fun!

Thanks for that Craz, very helpful info.
Shame about Twin lakes used to be really good.
I mainly fish the Eden and it's feeders up here I have a passion for small streams, but during the close season I sometimes have a day at Bessies Beck
it's a small stillwater 10 mins from j38 on M6 and very nice. Also used to fish at Broom fisheries at Annan but they to have made 3 of there Lochs over to coarse fishing only and it's not the same.
Will give you a PM if I venture down to Twin Lakes.

Went to Mere Beck instead. Was a bit windy/cold to go to Barsnfold I felt in that wind and I know some trees I can hide behind at Mere beck

Only had a roach on the bank yesterday though. Hooked 2 trout, lost both in my last half hour. First one was on and off within 2 seconds. 2nd one was ready for the net but the net got caught on the switch for opening the net and while I was messing about trying to untangle it I let the pressure off the fish and it got off

That's 4 trips this year trout fishing and I've banked a Golden Orfe (bloodworm variant) and a Roach (Green PTN). Trout where taking some home mades in the top couple of inches. The ones on the right in the middle. Wish I'd of started an hour later (4pm) instead of when I did as there where lots of people starting to catch at 6pm as I was leaving.
There wasn't many on yesterday afternoon though. I think I counted 5 people from when I got there.

I will try Barnsfold in the next couple of weeks if the wind drops off though and It's a bit warmer.
