Default Pitsford 2nd April

Arrived at the Gorse to find clouds of buzzers on the bank and a very light WNW breeze.Set up my new snowbee buzzer tip with 15ft leader- glister cruncher 10 on the point and a small olive buzzer on the bottom and one of Mugsy's beautifully tied quill buzzers on the top.Got off to a good start with two fish on the first cast, on the top and point.Managed to return them with no tangles and had three more fish within forty minutes, all near the top.Two fish took as soon as the flies landed. The wind picked up to a stiff 10-15 mph, which off the right shoulder made casting tricky.Knowing there were plenty of fish in front of us we persevered and had a couple more fish each, though the takes became less and less confident as it became hard to fish the flies slow enough in the wind.Around lunchtime we decided to motor round to Sermans and found the wind even stronger, but off our left shoulder and roughly parallel to the shore.Fishing the same set up I was soon into fish, which were nearly taking the rod out of my hand. The line was blown round to the shore in a matter of thirty seconds but these fish were happy with that, all bar one of the eight (up to 4lb)I caught here took the cruncher. It was important to follow the shoals up the bank to keep the takes coming, they were really on the move.I get the impression that all the popular spots have taken a hammering and the fish are getting picky.I wish I had gone to Sermans from the off, we only saw one other rod all afternoon. All in all a good day out but I look forward to when the water warms up, having forgotten my thick wading socks my feet suffered!

Gads

p.s you're right about the snowbee buzzer Pirate, what a right brahma!

Had a boat on Pitsford today and found that the fish were, in the main, lying at depth. I took 3 on a tungsten beaded, red buzzer at 10 to 12 ft and 1 on a copper wire ribbed pheasant tail buzzer fish very slowly on an intermediate. Super fish in great condition that fought like tigers on a 10ft, 3/4 wt, Snowbee ZR2.

Top two fish are 3lb or so.
