butterstone eddy is on a distinguished road
Default Butterstone Report

Butterstone continues to fish well with those anglers who suffered the wind and the rain having some cracking sport. Intermediate lines are the best way to go, with the usual early season killers like the Orange Blob, Yellow Dancer, White Cat and the Black and Green all working well. Small traditionals like the Diawl Bach in sizes 12–14 are also taking fish. The water clarity is better and water temp is still around 5'C.

The fish are still well spread out but there are still large shoals around the road shore and Nether Cardney cottage as in previous years. There are good pockets of fish to be found down the reed beds, towards the lilies outside of the top bay and along the shelf just outside the harbour right round to the south shore.

The average size of fish is still around the 2lb mark with some cracking 4 – 5 pounders also being landed. Those doing well last week included Ian Robertson from Bankfoot and his cronies weighed in 18 for 43lbs, Messrs. Brown and Fair landed 6 for 14lbs 6oz and the Burns family using the Perth and District boat weighed in 12 for 28lbs. On Saturday J McGonagall and boat partner weighed in 12 for 28 lbs, Mr. Boot had 6 fish for 14lb 5oz including a lovely 4lbs rainbow and on Sunday D Mclean and A Scott weighed in 12 fish for 32lbs 12oz and they also returned a further 20. On the club front Stanley AC weighed in 88 fish for 201lb 7oz for 8 boats, Burnside AC weighed in 21 fish for 48lbs 8oz for 2 boats they also returned a further 3 for and the Kingfisher 20 weighed in 45 fish for 103 lbs. Catch 22 AC had 49 for 108lbs 13oz for 6 boats and Aberdour AC weighed in 66 fish for 150lbs 12oz for 9 boats.

The prospects this coming week are mixed with sunny spells predicted for the start of the week with moderate winds for the majority of the week coming from a south Westerly direction with light rain forecast for the tail end of the week. Temperatures are going to be a high of 13'C and a low of 4'C at night.

Butterstone remains to fish well with the weekday anglers enjoying fairer weather conditions having great sport. Sadly as predicted the wintery conditions of forecast for the weekend did materialise and the wind and snow made life pretty difficult for those anglers that came. Fast glass Intermediates with mini lure the likes of Black & Green, Yellow Dancer, Cormorants, Orange Blob, Montana, if like some of the previous week days it warms up a little a quick change to a midge tip or ghost tip with small Diawl Bach’s or little traditionals Kate Mclaren being a good bet. Water clarity is still down on last year due to the constant churning of the water due to the winds and water temp is at

The fish are still well spread out but there are still large shoals around the road shore and Nether Cardney cottage as per previous years. There are good pockets of fish found down the reed beds towards the lilies outside of the top bay and along the shelf just outside the harbour right round to the south shore.

The average size of fish is still around the 1kg mark with some cracking 4 – 5 lbs being landed too.

A Few anglers that did well over the past week: Mr Welsh weighed in 6 fish for 14lbs 14oz, S Malcolm also weighed in 6 for 18lbs 8oz and returned a further 2, Messer’s Scougal and Shaw landed weighed in 9 fish and returned a further 6 fish. The Wilson family comprising of Willie, Michael and young Connor weighed in 7 fish for 14lbs 1oz and returned a further 16. On the Club front Dundee AC 44 fish for 98lb 13oz including a Lovely Brown of 11lbs 9oz caught by John McDougal. Balbeggie AC weighed in 51 fish for 118lbs 6oz for 8 boats. Perth RASC 48 fish for 124lbs 7oz for 6boats Perth Anglers 31 fish for 69lb 3oz for 4 boats.

This weeks 5 day forecast isn’t looking too bad with some snow flurries and light rain predicted winds will be light temperatures will be a high of a cold 8-9’C and a low of -2’C. But if the fishing remains as is it will be well worth braving the weather as sport is bountiful.

The predicted cold snap most defiantly materialised and for the few anglers that fished and found the right tactics the loch is still producing large no's of fish. Things have quietened down a little on past weeks but there is still great sport to be had. Intermediate lines with mini lures the likes of Cormorants, Black Fritz, Black & Green, Yellow Dancer to mention a few. Water quality is ok with clarity being around 1m and water temperature at a low 7'C oxygen levels are good at 12mg/l at 1m.

After the last few days of the wind coming out of the North West the fish have moved down to the South East shoreline and are to be found from the end of the reeds past the old picnic area round to the Buoys in the shallows and just off the shelf.

The average size of fish is still around the 1kg mark with some cracking 4 – 5 lbs being landed too.

A Few anglers that did well over the past week: Mr Thom 2 fish for 3lb 5oz, Mr Wigglesworth returned 3, I Robertson and cronies 11 fish for 24lbs 8oz, Messers Young Senior & Junior and Mr Elliot 15 fish for 43lbs 4oz, S Mitchell and partner 12 fish for 32lbs.On the Club Front IBM Freshwater AC 61 fish for 150 lbs for 9xboats, Bank o Scotland East 34 fish for 78 lbs for 5xboats, Scotsman AC 23 fish for 54lb 1oz for 4x boats, Stanley 39 fish for 93lb 4oz for 7xboats and Leslie & Glenrothes AC 51 fish for 128lb 2 oz for 6xboats they also returned a further 19 fish.

This weeks 5 day BBC forecast is looking better than last with the predominant weather being sunny spells with a couple of wintry showers thrown in for good measure. Winds will start off light but gradually increase as the week progresses to 21 mph on Friday. Temperatures will be a high of a cold 9-10'C and a low of 1'C.
