Default Cound Shropshire

We fished at Cound yesterday in superb weather, massive hatches of buzzers meant frantic sport. We fished from float tubes drifting from the top to bottom of the lake. Using a 3 buzzer set up and casting towards the shore resulted in around 30 - 35 fish by the end of the day, I only caught 1 rainbow, Brook trout were on the feed. This Still water is fishing very well and will only get even better in the next few weeks as the weather improves.

Last time I fished it (2 or 3 years ago I admit) the fish were very small, although we did have a fair few on buzzers. Their prices also seem a bit steep to me for what it is, especially compared to other places within a similar driving distance for me (an hour or so). You obviously had a good number or fish though, so sounds like you had a great day

Default Prices at cound

It's not as expensive as you think! £15 1 fish all day.

Oh yes, just checked the website again and for a small(ish) water (as opposed to the cheaper bigger reservoirs) its not too bad is it? I think its was the £30+ prices for the higher limit bags that had stuck in my head, but 1 fish +C&R would be fine for me most times anyway.

Must agree with JeffR, Cound is a nice place and a good buzzer water, but the main stamp of fish always seems to be in the 14oz-1lb bracket. There's plenty of them though, so it's good fun, but would be much better if the average size was bigger. I think £15 maybe a little expensive for one fish of such a small stamp...especially with Gailey down the road at the same price (2 fish/£15), or Foremark (6fish/£18).

I don't fish small stocked lakes that much (not really my favourite type of venue) but I think Ellerdine is one of the best around here for price/size/quality/variety. My first ever visit there I had a good number of fish, including an 11lb 'bow and 5.5lb brownie - all spanking condition. Always done well on other trips too - bloodworms and buzzers usually. A friend of mine also rates Delbury Hall highly (smaller fish, but very pretty place) but I haven't fished there yet. Dearnford was pretty good til it closed.

Loynton Hall too can be good on it's day - albeit a little on the expensive side, £25 for two fish and then c&r I think, but Ellerdine probably has the edge on it, as JeffR said, Ed the owner is a top bloke too.
