had my first outing of the year on monikies island pond bloody freezing north wind but despite this plenty of rising troots managed to get get 6 cracking rainbows for 16 lb also lost a few all of them falling for my orange bead damsel great start to the year

Well done Smartfly, sounds like you had a good day given the conditions! I'm on the Island Pond on Wednesday, were the fish well spread or localised? Were you getting them on the top?

fish well spread out loads sitting in bay just out from the jetty fish were well up then a bit deeper in afternoon

Default Monikie update

Having expected to get frozen off the water, it turned out not too bad! Almost gin and tonic weather when we came ashore for lunch. Even a hatch of buzzers all day long although fish stayed below (feeding on pupae so tried buzzers to no success). We got ours on wetcel I's and black and green, another boat using floating lines and yellow dancers. Very good quality fish and very nice to be out...
