Hi,

Didn't make it to Tal Y Lyn this season but hoping to get there in the spring (early May). Anyone fish it this season gone? any Sewin about? weed under control?

Thanks in advance.

Fished it in May a couple of times in 2011, on a boat.

Fished really well with a wind and some sunny spells. I wouldn't say the weed was under control at the time, but the situation was certainly improving thanks to Phil's hard work. It might well be a different (improved) story for the start of 2012 season. I didn't catch any sewin while I was there, although I am sure I turned a few - but had browns up to 2lb 10oz and some lovely wild fish to 1lb.

Its a shame I didn't get the time to fish it more often at the latter end of the year. Instead I was too preoccupied with having a great end-of season run on the Dyfi/Dovey!!

Cheers

H

Thanks for the reply H,

2lb 10oz is a great fish. Sounds like you had a great time.

Hopefully Phil will pop up and give us an end of season report sometime and let us in on plans for next season.

Best

Jon

Been a long time since I last fished there ,I do intend taking a day or two with the float tube ,it is one of the most scenic fisheries I have had the pleasure to fish .

Too right Andy, almost up there with the east end of Currane and a damn sight easier to get to!

Cheers

Early June on Butcombe Stones at last knockings, with glow worms in the grass and the fish on the sedge pupa... heaven.

Jon,

Tal-y-llyn fishes exceptionally well from a float tube, such a great way to cover the 'shelf' from shallow to deeper water. Now you mention it, I might have to make some plans to get up there early season! Speaking to a friend of mine earlier today who fishes there often, he said that some good catches of sewin were recorded towards the end of the season.

Another gem is Llyn Gwernan, about 8miles away from Tal-y-llyn, above Dolgellau. Well worth trying if you are spending time in the area. It's a 12 acre lake with stocked rainbows that you'd swear were wild, good head of wild trout to 1lb and the odd sewin late season that come up via a small stream from the wnion. The best thing about it - its great float tube water.

Cheers,

Huw
