Default Lakedown 16/2/08

Very cold start, heavy frost, some ice on lake 1-edges.
Club day,15 fished.Reasonable day all round, plenty of limits all came fairly early in the day though.Had 4 for 10lb-1 oz by 1pm,from lake 3.Most fish taken at depth with slow retreive, white fritzy jobbys doing a lot of damage. For those struggling, afternoon was somewhat harder, although fish were being caught as late as 4pm.

Lakedown used to be £35.00( I think) for 4 fish from a choice of 4 lakes.
Then they made lake 1 a "big fish lake" that you can fish for £60.00
But they still charge £35.00 for 4 fish only now from a choice of 3 lakes.
Also no catch and release policy, so if you've got your 4 fish, regardless of size, in the first hour, which I have done, you're finished for the day. Great sport that!
Do they think nobody has noticed.
I'll stick to my rivers, as crappy as they are in Kent.

Yup,prices gone up to £35 four fish.Certainly would not pay the £60,some members have fished it and come away with fish of barely 4lb .
Shame they mucked around with it all as its a nice setting.

Lakedown can be considered pricey - but i took my daughter ( 10 yrs ) down there several times last year and Ted ( the old boy ) was extremely patient and Polly enjoyed the whole FF experience - well worth the hospice donation, so much so she has a better rod than me now. The setting at Lakedown is beautifull and i will be visiting it again ( maybe after bonus time ). I live near Gravesend in Kent and trouting, either river or reservoir, can be hard to come by at a reasonable price.

Two of us went on the 15th Feb to fish the specimen lake. It was very cold and a cold easterly was blowing quite hard. We were advised it would be hard fishing in those conditions on the big fish lake, but we thought it was worth a try. We fished until 4.30 and only got two each. We didnt mind the fishing being hard but we were both a bit p****d off about the fact they were all between 3 1/2lb and 3 3/4lb. Not exactly specimens. When we looked in the returns book for that day, we saw bigger fish had been caught in the other lakes. Think ill save some money next time and fish those instead.

As i said in previous post, club members have fished it and found the same, barely 4lb ers.Infact on Saturday,i had fish of just over 3lb (lake 3)and some better fish pushing 4lb were taken, again from lakes two three and four.
Could not understand the rules though.A few of us had limits quite early.Had lunch and drinks etc and around 2pm asked if we could have a TWO fish ticket on the speci lake.reply was we don't do a two fish ticket .Strange i think that they can turn away -say possibly £30 per person for two fish, even more so when we would have had barely two hours fishing time(we asked at 2pm) and the odds must have been in their favour-oh well thei r loss

If this isn’t reasonable value I'll eat my hat. It's a drive for you though.

If you ever fancy sharing a boat Chub, drop me a PM. Arlingtons a lovely water in the spring and fantastic dry fly sport if you pick the right day. And yes a big shame Barcombe has gone, I always had good fun there.
