On the Lakes.
The water is still crystal clear and with little weed to interrupt proceedings, plenty of good fish are coming to the line.

The top method at this time is "fishing a damp daddy".

That means put a daddy on your line and let it sink slightly into the surface film by not using floatant.

This is the closest you will get to mimic the hundreds of daddies that are dropping on the water all the time at this time of year.

This Weeks Fishing Tip

Tomorrow is the last day of the river season, when many people will put their rods away.

However - without, touting for business, we can give you five compelling reasons to keep fishing through the winter.

1. It is the best season to catch fish. Gone are the hot sultry days of Summer, when the fish lurk on the bottom not interested in anything but a bit of oxygen. In the winter season, they are much more lively and will give you some cracking fights.

2. You don't need to get cold. At Meon Springs, the large fish cooler goes and is replaced by a warm log burning stove. All you need to do is bring along some warmer clothing, wellies and a good coat to have the same experience or an even better time than fishing on a Summer's day.

3. You don't need to go hungry. In the winter, you can use your trout to make warm and scrummy fish pie, as you will find in this recipe. TopTrout Limited Fisherman's Pie

4. The fish are much fitter. With the faster flow of water and the lack of readily available fly life, the fish will be working much harder, which in turn makes them fitter and better specimens to catch.

5. We need your business. Lets be honest here, we'll be open all winter and without your support its going to get very lonely up in this valley. So come on down, bring your friends, organise an event or simply enjoy a cool day out on the lakes...

TROUTMASTERS
Previously, Ian Lawless was winning with a beautiful 6Lbs 9oz rainbow to a daddy long legs on Whitewool Lake. However, On Friday 30th September, Mr C Cole also caught a 6Lbs 9oz rainbow - which means that September Troutmasters is a tie.

So - we are pleased to offer both of the above a free two fish ticket for use in October.
