Thumbs up Farmoor's heaviest Brown to date 10.2.08

It was such a beautiful day something special was bound to happen and it did. Two men in a boat had a right result. As Brian Parrott lifted his black lure from the bottom the fish took. It was obvious from the start it was a good fish but when it rolled on the surface both Brian and Pete Jeffery his boat partner could see that this one was a double and a Brownie. Eventually it came to the net and even then it put up a fight, breaking Brian's net. The fish was lightly hooked and having been quickly wieghed and witnessed it was safely returned. The fish weighed in at 14lb 8ozs breaking the longstanding heaviest fish record at Farmoor previously held by Mr Longmoore.

Congratulations and Well done Brian!

Thanks for the post Royston and great fish for Brian, but can I just say it would be better if you kept postings on this water in 1 thread to make it easier for people to find and read the info you post.

Just a suggestion.

What a monster! Just goes to show you never quite know what the depths of Farmoor are going to produce!

I also fished Farmoor today from the bank and although I didn't quite catch anything like the brute above I did have 5 very nice fish which fought really well (like all the fish do at Farmoor). All five fish took a small black booby about 25-30 yards out. The levels still seem to be rising and hopefully if the weather stays calm they will be back to normal soon.

If anyone else has been to Farmoor recently please let us know how you got on. It would be nice to get regular reports from a selection of people.

Hi Royston,

Cracking Brownie there.

Does it stand as record though as it's out of season for Brownies?

Im not trying to take away from the fish but just asking an honest question.

Cheers,

Mark

Sounds like an awesome fish. I have seen a few large browns cruising past the boat jetty over the years . I don't think it should count as a record though as it was out of season. It was a month to early

Thats a cracker of a fish, how long would it have to be in to reach that kind of weight ?
Good fishing,
Andy.

Starsky & Lampeterexile. Re your question as to whether it is a record fish. We are counting it as a record weight fish for this fishery. We don't have an open or closed season here for browns as they must all be returned whatever time.

Andrew I can't give you a definitive answer as to the age of the fish as they all grown on a differnt rates. We have got rainbows in our stock cages which all went in at about 1lb to 1lb 4oz and they now range from 2lb to 3lb 8oz.
Browns as I'm sure you know are much slower to grow and I suspect that this fish has been in there approaching 10 yrs if not longer. It appeared to be a hen fish and may have put in appearance year before last.

I hope that answers the questions chaps

Doesn't make things difficult, just trying to help. If your weekly reports are in one place then people can read one thread to see how the fishery is coming along/fishing at the time. If you look at some of the river/still water threads that are in the 000's of posts (although some are way out there regarding topic) it helps the community who fish that area.

Best wishes for your fishery.
