I live just up the road from rockborne and used to fish it almost every weekend. Geoff is a miserable ****** and always used to moan about anglers catching the bigger fish by design(stalking) so its no surprise. I dont fish it anymore as i got fed up with his attitude, the prices and it seemed that he used to stock some small fish. The minimum stock size used to be 3.8 lb and alot were around the 2lb mark. I dont mind spending money on my fishing but 50 quid to catch a few 2lb trout is a bit much.

I have only been there a few times. I was upset by a bloke called Sibbons who would insist in fishing within 12 INCH of me. He moved off when I asked he if he liked swimming after his broken rod. Another time a chap came around with a landrover and trailer and asked if THE big one had been caught . I SAID WHAT BIG ONE, he drove off. I have never been back since. At his prices there are other fisheries cheaper with bigger fish and cheaper.
Perhaps who ever takes over will put in bigger fish.

The little stream is a delight to fish. You can keep the lakes. I fished it once as a freebie and found it very easy fishing for pellet pigs.

I fished it many years ago as a guest of a wonderfully civilised fishing club called "The Water Rats", who were all linked in one way or the other to Gallaher Tobacco and the Benson & Hedges Competition.

At the time, it was called "Allens Farm", and was ran by Peter Lapsey. it's gone through a good few owners since then, and I don't think anyone has made any money from it.

I did enjoy that day though, the weather was maybe a bit too sunny for serious fishing, and the neatly mown banks offered no shelter to hide behind, but the steak barbeque was superb - as was the company.

Regards,

Doc

Caught my first ever river trout on a fly here. Still remember the sense of disbelief and then slight panic when it rose and took the fly.

I used to fish there regularly back when I lived down the road in Alderholt in the early 90's when it was owned by Andrew Hay.

Bill Sibbons - who sadly died a few years ago was an absolute character and would take the mickey out of people who weren't regulars by doing exactly as you said. Best way to deal with Bill was to go and winkle out the large one he was stalking, before he got it

He really was one of the most amusing guys to fish with, had a real obsession with big fish - which quickly transmitted itself to me at the time. It was all good fun though, stalking the big fish with a 4 weight!

Oh by the way, back then there would be at least one fish approaching double figures in each of the larger lakes and quite a few around the 6 or 7 pound mark. It is all just a matter of observation, observation, planning and then ambush.

gb

p.s. they want too much for it, reason? the house has an agricultural tie!
