Hi guys, I am heading down to Grafham tomorrow afternoon (tuesday) to fish for three days, wednesday through to friday and was looking for some areas to target and advice on flies etc.

Any info gratefully received.

I have checked out the website for the reports but am also interested in upto date news.

Many thanks

Hi mate, Grafham was great!

Three totally different days fishing. Wednesday the wind was blowing onto the dam wall which held a fair amount of fish. I managed 5 that day ranging from about 2lbs to 5lbs, a couple on a gold headed green fritz/damsel, a couple on a Cormorant and one on a two tone blob. Slow glass line. Wind had been blowing hard the day before in that direction and it brought fish along with it.

Thursday was flat calm and 21 degrees, which after 8 hours gave me a great tan along with some sunburn to the face! Had three fish in the morning, two on blobs off the Valve Tower on the Dam wall, one on yellow dancer. Afternoon was hard going all over, we had 6 boats out and the fish switched off for most of the time. Fish caught more on the far shore right down to the dam wall. DI5.

Friday was competition day (!), light breeze, off the dam wall, warm and cloudy with the sun making an appearance now and again. I had 5 to my boat partners three, winning my pairing and my club won the overall competition. Twas a friendly competition so not too serious but good to win all the same. Me being the novice I was nervous going into it but glad to play my part. Fish were caught all over, I had no luck on the dam wall but picked up a few drifting from the dam to Gaynes Cove then a drift pretty much from the other end of the dam wall right down the far side. DI5 and pulling blobs was the most effective for most of us, or the fritz damsel. A black blob worked too.

First time down that way and it was awesome. The 'lodge' is something to behold and has a tackle shop worthy of any High Street. Bar/restaurant upstairs was very good too. A pint with lunch was great! There are fishery reports on the website - google grafham fishing and you should find it.

Staff were very helpful. They supply drogues and nets so no need to use your own. There are shrimps there, dodgy ones that are not welcome, I didn't read the small print on them but the fish love them so maybe buy a shrimp pattern or two from the shop and try at the dam wall, fast retrieve as these things go like rockets through the water.

The fish are fantastic quality and very hard fighting, there is the odd one with cormorant marks but only saw the odd cormorant.

To any one thinking of going down that way I would thoroughly recommend it as I loved it.

Tight lines for your trip!
