Default Watermark - Late January

Had some great fishing here this last week both personally and doing beginners days. Everyone caught their limits, with at least one fish of 4-7lbs per angler!

It's not just about lures either, providing the weather is reasonable bloodworm and buzzers are taking plenty of fish.

Agreed...Had a great day in December there - had 4 fish (1 x 7.5 lb and 1x 5lb) all on bloodworm on a floater. Also had the lake to myself.......

Only complaint with Watermark if anything it was a bit too easy (never happy us anglers!) I nearly bagged up in a few hours and intended to fish for the day. Had to put my rod down and chill out for a bit Shame they stopped the C&R but I can appreciate that if fish are getting damaged then something must give.

I hope the prices stay the same for this year though as they have reached my limit for 4 fish ticket....

Watermark is more expensive than Bushey..£45 for six fish against £35 for Bushey.

Is it worth the money, do you guys think?

I haven't been there so could you base any comments on the fact that I am a great fan of Busheyleaze..best medium sized water I've ever been to.

Many thanks.

Puzzler, I asked AD the same question last last year, he confirmed prices will be the same for 2008.

As you say it can get a bit easy, as per most small waters should you hit a group of fish on a feeding spree. Shame a few morons spoilt the C&R for everyone else! I tend to stalk the larger than average fish or the browns in season, which passes the day nicely. Trouble is it goes too damn fast!

Royvs, I totally agree Bushy is a great mid size water. I reckon Watermark sits between Bushy and Lechlade on price and fish size. Fish it right and you can go home with a bag of very good average size for a reasonable price. The large head of good brownies is probably another price factor.

Have you fished Bushy or Lechade lately? Might pop over in the next few days.

Not sure its better...

Mind you I have only actually fished there three times to be honest so I have not see any major hatches.

I think it is a bit overpriced to be honest - the prices are fair up to 4 fish (considering the size) but then have IMHO to much of a price jump if you want 6 fish.

It is a deeper water than Bushy so although floating lines work well sometimes you will need a sinker (DI5) to get down to where the fish are holding - especialy on the warmer days.

The fish are of a good quality and fight very well. I have not fished Bushy for about a year. I always used to enjoy it there but the last time I fished there I was dissapointed with the quality of the fish I caught. Nothing wrong with the size but they were a bit tailless. I assume this was a one off and they are back to their best (I may go in Feb)?

If your after good quality fish mind you try Farmoor. Not monsters but full tailed silver streaks...

I here Santhill used to be good but it went down hill last year apparently and I have heard from somone else on this forum that it may even be shut down.

I fished in Broad Oak the weekend. Stunning venue but the lake is too young with not enough vegetation. It was very windy and the water was a bit coloured. Ended up taking one fish on a CW nomad. Has a lot of potential for a smaller fishery but needs to mature....

Gawd...I'm ranting on here....sorry mate..... Watermark is worth a vist.

Have you tried Farmoor? Its a much bigger water but the fishing is very good (fish are smaller but 'fitter'). People are also very friendly and knowledgable (the bailif often does a report on this forum).
