I guess the plain truth is that everything is for sale at a price. Recent discussions indicate that there are no immediate plans to sell infact they are talking about increaseing the shop activuty. I guess that the prioroty will switch to catering and cothing/tackle sales firstly then fishing which has probably always been the case judging by the way recent investment up there has gone.

It's very difficult to see how the Venachar facility could be profitable. So I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't survive with its current owners.

The overheads must be very high, relative to income and it's hard to see the shop being profitable from either counter sales or internet sales with the current product range on offer.

It's a beautiful place to go fishing, but it really needs lots of club outings and competitions to generate a decent income and, from what one hears, clubs give it a go and then fail to return for a repeat outing.

Default Club Outings

Fly Only I agree, with extensive knowledge of running fisheries, and simply by looking at the Vennacher set up, overheads will be huge!!! My two clubs had outings there in 2007 but have failed to re-book in 2008....Principally because guys dont want to travel to far, the fishing was hard and that the price comparison was heavy compared with other waters...On the contary I have to say I enjoyed both visits and relish fishing waters such as Vennacher and Carron. I will be fishing it in 2008, regardless of the club outings...

Are there to be nationals again there this year?

are you tabling an offer Big fella. Do you no get out fishing enough as it is.
Prices are shocking for what it is, fishing wise and in the cafe. Had to sell one of the kids to pay for breakfast when I was up last year.

First Fitty, then leven, now venacher along with many other stillwaters changing hands like anything as regular as clockwork.Wonder what the reasons are behind the regular turnover of fisheries?

there is no money in it,or the margins are very tight and not worth the hassle.
what with us moaning anglers wanting our limit every time or it's **** .nothing to do with us being **** anglers or the fish not wanting to co-operate.
talk to any fishery manager, and he'll tell you that to make a fishery viable some folk have to blank to make up for the regular limit takers.
