Visited Caistron for the first time today & I've got to say I'm shocked its not as popular as some of the other local venues. If you're allergic to stripping lures like myself Caistron is a must to fish. Myself & fellow angler Davey decided on a boat for the day, this being Daveys 3rd visit he had a head start on me knowledge wise.....
He said the lake fished better using naturals sp I opted for a Diawl Bach & a green Pheasant Tail, first cast bang but I lost it as I wasn't concentrating & never expected it. Davey was using a daddy on the point with a green P/Tail on dropper & took his first on the daddy when he had momentarily placed his rod down (his luck never ceases to amaze me!). We moved into the centre of the lake which was clear of weed & I had one on a Sedgehog. Davey continued to catch on his favoured flies ending the day with six & missing about the same. I however, missed several takes & got snapped off by what I think was a BIG fish & had to end the day content with the one. One thing about these trout, I've never ever seen as many acrobatic fish. My own fish tried to commit suicide making a leap for the boat. II've been told Caistron has been very quiet visitor wise & North East fisherman are missing out but I like the place as its quiet & you get none of the ignorance & other anglers invading your space up there. The scenery is fantastic, the nigh on 70 mile round trip was well worth it. Sorry if I rambled on for my first post but I'm still buzzing
