Default Delbury Hall

I pass Delbury Hall trout fishery quite often and always wanted to fish it.
Does anyone on here fish it? It looks a very nice fishery.

Are there any competitions held there?

Any info would be gratefully received.

Hi Matty
I've never fished it myself but have a mate who fishes it now and then and really likes it. One of those places ones on my "to do" list along with many others! I think its very relaxed, very pretty, the water is pretty clear and the fish respond well to naturals. Prices perhaps a little steep at £25 for 2 fish full day, but the £15 for 5 hours and 1 fish looks better value. See website:
http://www.delbury.com/trout_fishery.htm

If you're ever planning a trip let me know and I if I can swing it I'll meet you there

Cheers

Jeff

I have fished it a few evenings in the summer. As JeffR states a very pretty water. I seem to recall great fishing with dry sedge or daddy in the summer and having a lot of fun.

I fish there quite regularly, love it there. Very relaxed fishery lovely scenery, however if its big fish your after this isn't the place for you, the average size fish is between 1 - 2lbs with some 2-3lbs occasionally caught. The biggest I have seen come out was 5lbs which my dad caught in 2006 I think.

The top (Garden) I have found fishes better than the lower (Corve) pool, although good sport can be had on both. A very good hot spot on the top pool is where the inlet pipe enters it nearest the gardens, all around the little circle bit there always holds fish. Don't bother fishing lures, waste of time, buzzers nymphs and drys out fish them consistantly, even in winter. I was up there a week a go had 1 fish to a lure and 2 to a gold head hares ear. The water is quite coloured at the moment however in spring/summer/early autumn it is crystal clear, it does suffer from large amounts of weed but still fishes very well if you can find a place where there is less weed, usualy the top pool. Fish are always good condition, theres a few 'golden' rainbows in there aswell although tthere a ****** to catch, very shy/ sppok easily. Also a few blues which fight very well. All in all great fishery.

(Hi Jeff good to see you over here, you have a PM over at GA )

Fished it a fair few times when on holiday up there and will be doing so again this year.Nice little fishery, decent prices and catch and release. It was heavily weeded last June when we visited, but still caught plenty.
A damn good place for dry fly and buzzers seem to work most of the time.
Some blues to be had, infact i had a few of those last time and the odd gold, but they were not interested .Not had anything of great size, infact most around 1.5lb is suspect, but usually give a good account of themselves.

Got it thanks Matt and have replied - and mtn is the chap I mention in my above post who sometimes fishes it (but not for a while I guess? have seen your pm on GA site thanks. Keep up the good work at Winchester and you'll soon be posting reports of your very own fishery on here in a few years time maybe! )

Can I share this with you guys? I had to go to Shropshire this week, and came across this venue on flyfishingvenues.co.uk, so thought I'd give it a try. What a lovely spot, surrounded by hills and fields and with a great little lodge; heated, loo, kettle, microwave etc. I bought the 15 quid 5 hour, 1 fish and c and r, and had some terrific sport. 6 rainbows, all off the top of very clear water on a black hopper and a sedge, all in perfect condition (still are) 2 of them somewhere between 4 and 4 1/2 pounds I guess.
One of them I nabbed by dropping the fly in the flow of an inlet pipe, where it drifted 5 or 6 feet out and a rainbow of 2 pounds or so took it in about 1 foot of crystal clear water! Never seen the take so clearly before!
Not going to be a regular haunt, 280 mile round trip, but if any of you are ever in the area, well worth a visit.
Regards, Del.
