Default Loch Dee, Galloway - midge forecast?

Hi,

I'm off with the family for a week at the end of this month, staying in Port William.

I've been promising myself a trip to Loch Dee in the Galloway Forest Park for the last few trips up there and deffo want to give it a go this time. Last time we we in the area end June and those midges pretty much ruined a days loch fishing for me......ashamed to say they got the better of me in the end and I beat a hasty retreat!

Can anyone tell me what the 'midge forecast' is likely to be for Galloway mid/end August and how bad are they on Loch Dee? I'd like to take my 9 yr old lad with me for the day but don't want to put him through a day with those little feckers!

Cheers,

Mike.

Thanks guys, I'll take your advice and look for a breeze. Just hope the fish are playing ball. Some of the browns I've seen pictures of from Dee look absolutely stunning!

No doubt I'll be spending most of my time in the heather retrieving flies from my lads back cast.......but maybe I'll get lucky enough to bank a couple of fish.

Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks,

Mike.
