Default Swanswater

Anyone fished Swanswater near Stirling recently ? Am thinking about giving it a bash tomorrow.

Any top tips out there to temp a few stockies out in this cold weather ?

Cheers

Stephen

Thumbs up

Well I spent my first day at Swanswater today. What a great fishery. I dont often fish this type of venue but I will most definately be back at this one. The staff and the setup is excelent.

I had a first time fly fisher with me who pounded away and managed to catch his first fish on the fly so he left delighted.

My first time fishing in the snow !! Next time I will be wearing 2 pairs of socks.

I cant reccomend this place enough.

Got 2 tickets for my stepdads Christmas and we are going to take a pop up in March for a day.

I had a look round when I bought the tickets and I must say that it looks an excellent fishery.

You will probably catch Paul Youngs program on Sky today that he made there as every single "Hooked on Fishing" program is being shown on Sky this weekend.

I am sure you and your Stepdad will really enjoy it.

I saw luggys program on it a few months ago and that with the couple of excelent reviews I read in the various mags recently made me head up. I was not dissapointed.

They were telling me that he spend days getting the hang of the float tube before he could even fish

lol. I mentioned that I saw the program and the guy behind the counter told me that story too!

Did you get a chance to fish any of the small pools at all of just the main water?

Was it Rainbows that you caught or was it blues/goldens and what were the condition and size of them?

Sorry for all the questions but I cant wait to go!

I spent a bit of time coaching my friend who was trying it for his first time, he is normally a metal chucker !!

I never managed anything as we were keeping away from the areas of the loch that were producing to avoid annoying people while he learned. When we were leaving he decided to keep practicing in one of the small pools, during my cup of tea in the club house I got a call on my mobile from a very excited friend who had his first trout on the fly but did not know what to do because the line had tangled above the reel !!

He landed the fish and it was bang on 2lb. Nice fish for a stockie, good condition with well formed fins and tail. He took it on a silver goldhead variant.

Used to fish Swans quite a lot when Josh went to the Cygnets, would suggest if your stepdad is a beginner stick to the two smaller ponds as you don't need to cast too far. Always get a great welcome from Morna and Alasdair who own the fishery and most of the regulars only too willing to help with advice.
