The report this week is slightly different and without evidence I cannot prove anything except that there seems to be a distinct lack of fish in our loch, over the last few weeks we have struggled to understand why the fishing has been off, OK its early August, and the fishing is always a trifle dodgy and it can be really impossible, normal for this time of year, some would say, apart from this very unsettled and totally unusual, hot, cold, wet, sunny weather, we have another problem mixed in with anglers being unable to catch fish, it all started two, maybe three weeks ago, when for some reason one day, the fishing suddenly got really hard, it seemed like their was nothing that the fishermen could do to entice the fish, then we stocked and all fell back into place and was normal for a while, however the next week end again saw reasonably good fishing, but on the Monday morning it all came apart , and a really hard three or four days fishing ensued, which was bolstered by another stocking and all was OK, now there is a pattern appearing and last Sunday saw a good day with anglers getting good catches and on the Monday a really bad day so much so it seemed like the loch was empty of fish, all week its been poor and with my next stocking not due till the 8th Aug their isn’t much we can do about it, there has been instances of intense illegal fishing for sea trout at Balmerino (poaching ) on the river Tay with several lads caught and charged, whether or not the cases will go to court remains to be seen, as its all got to with the Access to the Countryside Act 2003,The neighbouring Birnie loch, and Lindores loch which are both unattended have been regularly visited by groups of these visitors, and I believe have been very successful at more or less catching everything that is available, as most of the rivers and unattended waters in Fife are now empty, So what’s all this got to do with us at the Goldenloch, well it seems to me we’ve been getting visited by some of these unwanted guests, they have just been helping themselves, its all a bit strange, it looks like we have lost a good head of fish from the loch, we know that by arithmetic on fish removed, stocked numbers and natural wastage we should have between 400 to 600, that’s not including last seasons carryover, why poach fish, well apart from picking berries, and there are a lot of berry pickers about, these people only earn money when its not raining and there’s been a lot of rain this year, so no pay, means no food, and the enterprising members of their community seem to have discovered an easy source of food, as a kind caring person I can only sympathise with them, but if I catch any of them here I’m afraid they will not be greeted by jindobray but by something else, they can get back on the ferry to wherever they came from.

Default Normal service resumed

All back to normal and thanks to Adam at Kindrochet fishery we have restocked with nice 2lb rainbows with the occasional big ones mixed in however to bump up numbers the next stocking will be fish of approx 1.5 > 1.75 lbs this should happen next week, the reason for this is purely to give anglers a treat for catch and release and also by the end of September they should be around the 2lb mark, early fishery Mr Harper with his daughter Kate had a few so things are much better now.

wow, bit of a sweeping statement blaming the poles John. Do you think that they are exclusive to poaching? there are plenty of scots at it too

I would have thought the Golden Loch would be quite hard to poach to the degree claimed. Johns house is almost on it!.
Sometimes the fish are just hard to catch, or downright off, anglers must accept this, as must fishery managers.
Thats a lot of money to keep the poachers in sport John.

I hadnt even known it had happened, was told by the boys in blue, info was from a translated note book, speak to the wardens on the Tay they will inform you as to who they are, its not just poles but alsorts of seasonal workers that are staying in camps. however restocking is easy part making sure it doesnt happen again is harder, by the way it was two otterboards
