Default Blithfield Report - 2/8/11

When conditions are right the water continues to fish very well especially during the evening form the boats. Successful method is a team of dry flies, either shaggy red size 10 Shipmans buzzers or red size 12 shuttlecocks. One boat took 16 fish to 2lb 12 in only 3 hours last evening when the cloud cover came and the breeze dropped. Fish are being caught during the day if you are prepared to take a boat and position it near the aeration pipe. Use a slow sink line with lures or traditional wets such as Wickhams Fancy or Butcher. Spooned fish have revealed they are feeding mainly on corixa or terrestrials, such as Rapeseed beetles, with large numbers of Grasshoppers also showing on the spoon! This is the first time in over 40 years of fishing in the UK that I have found these large land insects in trout. Get the dapping floss out!
