Default Where to go this weekend ?

So.......................it's brass monkey weather and I am trying to decide where to go and knock out a few stockies at the weekend. Some of my buddies are going to Lechlade but I hate "kill only" tickets and the last thing I need is thirty pounds of dead trout. Here are the choices :

Rib - 15 minutes drive, certain to catch a few fish but mainly dragging a Di7 slowly along the bottom. Been there the last two weeks.

Manor Farm - 20 minutes drive, haven't fished it this year but supposedly fishing OK although less consistent than Rib. Possibility of some action on the floater.

Clavering - 45 minutes drive, haven't fished it for a couple of years but normally good this time of year. Reputedly a bit harder than usual.

Walthamstow - 45 minutes, has been fishing well but no stocking since end November. I enjoy its challenge but would not be too sure where the fish are.

Elinor - one hour's drive but fishing well provided it's not too windy or bright.

Any I've missed ? What would you do ?

Charlie

Hi All

Never mind the shooting head, get your self a nice 4# or 5# and never look back lots of nice rivers in your area.

You know all the stillwaters that are local and open in the winter. Suggestion would be Elinor - you liked that place apart from the NE wind. Check the weather and if ok go there. Failing that go to Rib that is your local water and if it gets too cold you are not too far from home.

Nice idea and I did catch one fish in the Xmas match on a floater but it only works if there is virtually no wind. Last winter I was catching dozens on the floater but the water is too coloured this year and that does not seem to work.

As you can see, I know Rib almost too well. I will probably give Manor Farm a try and at least I can experiment there with optimism.

It's also pretty close so I can get home if its pants.

Thumbs up Walthamstow

Go to Walthamstow, I was there on Wednesday (19 Dec) it got windy/chilly has hell in the afternoon, and although not stocked since November it was fishing well. 4 of us, fishing that day...and out of four, only one blanked ( cause he was chatting and drinking tea all the time). I and another person bagged two each and the other guy managed to bag one. What flies we used, we won't tell you....as you like bit of a challange, it is up to you to find out....But tell you what, caught both my fish on the floater.

happy hunting and tight lines !

Whereabouts did you fish - that's all I need to know

If I'm on fish, I'll find a way to catch them

Well done Deo, bet the fish were in good condition?

I'm going to try and get to Walthamstow tomorrow.

Got 2 new rods to try, one I just built and a the one I won over at Complete Fisher (lucky git!)

Will need to find time to get some shopping in as well, have to get my priorities right .
