Dear Colin,
This Friday we have a Corporate Day and Whitewool Lake will be closed all day for day fishing.
Fishing Caps? Have a word with Keith or Roger. We now have Meon Springs Fly Fishery caps available for sale at the fishery.
On the Lakes.
The changeable, but warm weather is causing the trout to be somewhat erratic in their behaviour. For best results, come fishing early in the morning or late at night. They are still going mad for buzzers and anything black.
This Weeks Fishing Tip
Fish Behaviour
Simple though they are, trout are very sensitive creatures and the slightest change in their conditions or the weather will change the way they act at the drop of a fly.
That is why, sometimes, after hours of non-activity, they suddenly will turn and have a feeding frenzy, which will make your day.
The problem is that it is very hard to predict what they are going to do in what conditions. However, there are some basic principles to which they normally adhere.
1. In bright weather the fish will be deep. Put the dries away and look for some heavier flies/lures. If you really do want to fish a dry in bright weather. Fish it static. No movement whatsoever.
2. In hot weather, they will feed less. Fish heavy flies deep and slow.
3. Sudden movement will move fish away from where you are. Be aware. Use care and caution and slow movements. Never thrash the water like a beginner - even if you are one...
4. Wear drab clothing. If you're dressed for a night club, you'll be disappointed with your catch.

July's biggest fish is still Julian Hayes, who has caught a 9lbs 3oz rainbow on Whitewool Lake to a hares ear.
