Default To-Day

Guest arriving at fishery, obviously never been before, standing reading the information boards prices etc,

Me; Hi, good morning, are you wanting to fish or just in to have a look around.

Guest; not sure, just wondering how much for a couple of hours C & R, as I am on holiday and I don’t want any fish,

Me; Sure that’s OK, its fly fishing only, boat or bank, for a couple of hours say £10, that will take you till 1pm.

Guest; Oh I was kind of wanting to fish all afternoon, when was it last stocked and what size do you put in,

Me; you don’t have to worry about there not being enough fish I can assure you there are plenty and they should all be about 2 lbs upward,

Guest; I was going to give a couple to the people we are staying with if they are nice big ones.

Me; Its £15 for 5 hours just like it said on the board, not £10 as I quoted you for a couple of hours C and R.

Guest; that’s a bit too much, is there any where else around here that’s cheaper,

Me; OK mate ive got to go now, hope you find somewhere.

Later he arrives back when I am not here, with his wife and dog, taking both with him and goes onto bank, we do not allow dogs here, its on all the signs, fishes for about 3.5 hrs and leaves. Yep, he left a tenner.

What a nerve. Obviously wanting something for nothing. Have you had much business from your radio airing?

Hi, this guy to day was just somehow very typical of a chance visitor, I don’t think that he was wanting something for nothing, its more like they don’t want to waste their cash if they cant catch a fish, truth is, the fishing is so hard just now and I think it’s the same everywhere that has a huge natural amount of feeding in the water that the fish just aren’t interested, funnily enough Scott Possie turned up a few days ago on a really bright day and caught loads and commented that he thought there was a massive head of fish in the loch, at the same time others struggled, but in the end they all catch something, its just not the 6 or 7 that they are used to,
The radio airing was an interesting weekend and the answer is yes I think it was good, apart from the fact that the whole thing was done so fast, I understood it, but family and friends that were listening could not get the points, as they were read out so quick, it was like the junior advertising wasn’t important and the senior was, the ads you heard were the major retailers, but funnily enough over the following few weeks after the advertising a few people called and booked, so it’s the old adage any advertising is better than none
