Default Winter Flyfishing

Hi,
New to fishing and to this forum, and already found both, enjoyable and entertaining!
Not too bothered about the cold, but maybe trout are; has anybody got any advice on where a novice has got a (small) chance of catching fish in the Herts, Beds, Bucks areas or slightly further afield during the winter months?
All advice most appreciated!

Fewston stays open through the winter at weekends only, it's near Harrogate.
A little closer is my local Toft Newton which closes mid December and reopens 1st Feb. Near Market Rasen.

Default winter flyfishing

Hello Delray

I'm from Cheshunt and fish Rib Valley in the winter and the fishing there is generally good. This is only just off the A10 at Ware.

Another good place is Manor Farm at Biggleswade right on the A1

Slightly more difficult at this time of year is Norton near Epping.

I'm not saying these are the best places around just that they are places I fish through the winter and I can generally manage to get a fish or two.

The order I've listed these in is in order of the preference I'd fish them

I hope this helps you and good luck

I'm a regular at Rib and can confirm it fishes well through the winter, in fact much better than when it gets warmer.

If you want to know how it's fishing or waht methods work best, drop me a pm. I'll probably be going this Sunday, so will have more upto date info after that.

Clavering can also be worth a trip and a chap on TCF told me that Redbournebury is a good place for a starter as it is very small.
