Default Scaling Dam

I'm going fishing at Scaling Dam in N. Yorks. tomorrow and this is by far the biggest stillwater that i have fished. What type of patterns/lures etc should i be fishing and should i be fishing them almost static? Also are rainbows still feeding on black buzzers or has that stopped at this time of year?

Basically any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Chris

hi chris,it's to be windy tommorow so fig of 8 with buzzers might be hard. unless you can get shelter(not likley at scaling dam) you'll probably end up pulling lures or fishing a booby. but buzzers under a sight bob might work in the wind.
if it is as windy as they say it will be ,it might be better to go along the road to lockwood beck,as you'll get some shelter there.

Chris

A few of my mates fished it a few weeks ago and the fly to use was a small black taddy, small black fritz lure or Dawson's olive.

Good luck for tomorrow, check the wind speed though , it'll be hard to get out of the wind up there if what's being given actually arrives (30mph + Gusting too).

It's an any method fishery and popped up powerbait is the in thing at present. not my scene I'm afraid

Try a dawsons olive on a floater / slow intermediate with a long leader and a slow retrieve; that seems to be the general concensus.

Tight lines

Just looked at the wind direction for tomorrow, Ouch!! Not sure if my lure chucking is up to it but i will give it a go.

I have some booby's but have never fished them. How do you fish them? I also have been given an orange weighted blob. How do you fish these too?

I just sort of get my head around river fishing and then find out stillwater is a whole different ball game!

if the wind is bad,get on the di 7 with a 3' leader with booby on the end, cast as far as you can, then fig of 8 it back,it's not beautiful but it will get fish on a hard day.
blobs are meant to be top droppers, but weighted blobs would have to be used on the point, and stripped back fast.

Nothing wrong with fishing a weighted blob static under a bung Jim; it's not pretty but its effective.
