Default Woman drowned at Haylie Fishery,Ayrshire

Good grief , seems a woman driver ended up in Haylie fishery yesterday (Sunday) and drowned.

I fished it on Saturday and had a great day.

There are no details of the accident as yet , but its quite a shallow fishery and would have been very busy at the time....tragic....

Someone told me today that they heard it on the radio and it apparently happened at 1 a.m. I'm sure they have 24 hour fishing up there and even when nobody is fishing i'm sure there is always a member of staff . Very sad whatever the situation was . . . .

Local press says it was 1pm - it was very busy on Saturday and usually just as busy on a Sunday.

If it was 1am - yes there is floodlighting but its only on if anybody is fishing, there is always a night watchman on duty tho' in the lodge...right next to the carpark.

Happened at 1pm Sunday. Car ended up in middle of the fishery. Around 100 anglers there at the time including many kids. One of the regulars stripped off his gear, dived into the water and made a brave attempt to save her but couldn't get the car doors open. He had to be hauled out himself in the end.

Hi Coaster ,

Yeh I read the report and know the guy who jumped in - (Cammy), no way was there 100 people there tho , 35 - 40 anglers and you wouldn't have room to sneeze ! Well done to Cammy for having a go - I think he ended up in hospital with hypothermia.

I still cant get my head round how it happened though - unless it was deliberate

tragic.

Car was an Escort. Got to be careful about these things and bear the family's feelings in mind, but apparently the woman driver was up at the Haylie earlier that morning having a good look around so you can draw your own conclusions from that.

Don't know if Cammy was taken to hospital but he was hyperventilating when he came out of the water and was certainly treated by paramedics at the scene for effects of cold.

Blimey - Seems a strange place to pick especially with a lot of people about, at weekends there can be a lot of kids there - lucky none of them was hurt too.
