Default Loch Ard and Venachar

I went away this last weekend to Loch Lomond, and was completely disappointed with it. Trying to get information about where to fish and permits (etc) seemed impossible, but anyway. i ended up driving to loch ard, and then loch venachar, both seemed to be good places to fish. bit of searching found that venachar had a shop that offers training, permits and equipment, but there seems to be little about loch ard.

does anyone have any experiences with either loch?

cheers

Rich

I believe Loch Ard is mainly a coarse fishing venue. The main species being pike and perch. Permits from the Post Office at Kinlochard is the latest information I can find.

It's a long time since I fished it but we got permits from a shop in Kinlochard at the top of the loch. We then went round the top of the loch to the wooded side and fished the bays there. I remember lots of small brown trout The loch is generally fished for the pike on the road side. Loch Chon, farther on, also has small brown trout and it is again fished mostly for pike. The permit used to be available from Frenich farm at the top of the loch.

thanks for the info. i took a canoe out and saw a few rises in Loch Ard, but didnt really know where was best to fish from. there is a nice river that runs through aberfoyle that might be good for fishing as well.

do you remember how much the permits were?
