Default Bristol Water Barrow Tanks

Planned a meet up with Brownsville after trading information on BW flies in the tying section. Also hoped for a good rise late on and some dry fly action.

Took a wander round tank 3 this evening. Fishing after 5pm with a team of two buzzers and a diawl on the point. Co pol leader. Had seen fish move 50 yards away from me a couple of times so carefully moved up to have a cast. Second chuck the leader started to cut through the surface a bit quicker than expected and I lifted half expecting to tighten into the lake bed when all heck broke lose. Into the backing twice and keeping deep it took and age to subdue the fish.

4.00lb on the dot. SZ14 black buzzer.

About 30 minutes later same thing, a very subtle movement at the end of the fly line and tightening up resulted in another good hook up.
Resulted in the top fish next to the one from earlier.

4.01lb. SZ14 black buzzer.

Only just after 6pm and in the bright conditions not expected. I fished on and met up with Mike. Chatted for a bit and had a beer. Was a pleasure to meet up Mike.
It was a nice evening and the predicted change in wind direction had happened but the speed was higher than expected.

Back to the fishing, it was a nice evening and the predicted change in wind direction had happened but the speed was higher than expected. Another steady take at about 7.30 and a fish of a good two and a half pounds was netted and returned. Red rib diawl bach in a 12. Again a stunning fish, fit, well mended and full finned. Another chap the other side of me was packing up at about 8.30. And I cast out as I was talking to him, there was a big swirl as the flies landed and this fish dived deep. Netted after another good scrap. would have pushed 3.08 I think but not weighed to confirm before he went back. Came to the red rib diawl also.

Anticipating the rise.....

One other fish at about 10pm to a fire brown bobs bits, smallest of the evening at a pound and a bit and so returned also. The rise that looked like it was on it's way all the time from 8.30 did not really happen. Would have been disappointing had it not been for the four exceptional fish from early in the session. I was astonished to have caught so many quality fish in one session.

There will be plenty of really good fish to be tempted now the wind direction has opened up area's that have been rested well for weeks.

Cheers,
Mark

It was a pleasure to meet you Mark, and congratulaions on your catch. Was the biggest 4lb? It looked heavier than that at the time. That's the best bag of fish I've seen at the tanks. Top angling mate.

I'll be out again tomorrow. Still hoping to snag one on one of my drys, I was a bit ring-rusty yesterday with the missed takes.

Good luck with the Orvis comp on Sunday.

Cheers, Mike

Still pinching myself Mike. First was 4lb and second fish was 4lb 1 ounce. Lean grown on slabs the pair.

You'll do OK mate, may be a little more into the ripple than whee we were for the dries. Tight lines.

Arranged to meet Kenster, of this forum, as he had a pass to fish the tanks today, on a visit from Devon.

Jon managed to take a fish from both No1 and 2 in difficult bright and windy conditions, while the local knowledge was royally blanking.

Later in the evening though, with the fifty acres of No2 between six anglers,

nothing much was had over 2lb, but even the little ones will put a good bend in a 7wt.

...and I broke my duck, credit to Mr Weilenmann, by catching on my home-tied dry flies for the first time.
