We had the last of the Hanningfield club series of boat matches today and it was a cracker. Quite a few limits and some real lumps caught - best fish was 6lbs 2 and several over 5lbs.

The area to be in was from the Inlet to the Peninsular and I caught on a midge tip with small black lures and DB's although other caught on boobies and buzzers. The fish were in the top 5 ft.

Mark Rooney won and also took the series with two firsts and a second, so well done to him, Lloyd Pallet was runner up.

Yes - dramatic improvement in the last week or so, I am told.

My boat partner yesterday lives about 5 minutes from the lodge and said the summer has been hard after the excellent fishing in April/May/June.

I only caught standard sized stockies, but the number of 4lbs plus fish at the weigh-in was quite remarkable.
