Default Chalk Springs today

Overcast but still. the water's lovely and clear and i could see several decent brownies cruising about. There aren't the monsters from years past, but still a lot of good fish in the 6-10lb bracket and one or two that might be a little bigger

Started on the long east lake and found a shoal of fish including 3 biggies under the tree at the far bottom of the lake. casting was a nightmare under the trees but not as bad as striking! I lost a big fish that inhaled the fly on the drop by not having room to strike Some chap on the other bank said 'i saw him nail that' - so did i, i replied miserably...

Fished the smaller W Lake where 4 decent fish were in residence. 3 were spooky but the 4th chased me round and round the lake before taking confidently on the drop. not a monster but a very nice brown of 7.12

Back to the east, and after getting a small 'bow that wouldnt spit the hook, i found a magnificetly spotted brownie lurking in the weeds of about 10ish lb. the little ****** chased, nipped and finally took the fly after a good 30 minutes. as he opened his mouth i could see a huge white flash and struck. A few surging runs later and the fly inexplicably came loose - Oh well, that's fishing, but i'd love to have seen him on the bank, his colouration was magnificent.

Had to get back to help with baby so tried the South lake quickly (well about an hour or so) not a sniff from the several biggies that were in there, but finally found a 5.12 brown to finish.

Lovely day. for those looking for a decent brownie, give it a go. there are many fish in there about 6-9lb and in cracking condition. NOT easy though!

Cheers

Alex

Yeah when I went about 3 weeks ago & they had a good head of browns, but only a couple which looked in the 8-10 lb range.
I had 2 nice browns of around 3lb each & a cheeky 2 1/2lb bow which raced halfway across the lake to take a buzzer which was cast a couple of yards in front of a biggie
Had to go at 14:30 & got absolutely burnt to a crisp.

One of the brownies took a Walker's Red Sedge & it was a rise which will stay with me forever. Not a huge fish by any stretch of the imagination, but the fish was facing me, about 20 yards out. I cast the Sedge about 2 feet my side of it & then the most leisurely sipping take you could possibly imagine.
Unforgettable!
