Pitsford 17th Oct.
I should have listened to you Brownie, the fishing was hard, too hard!
Started the day badly with a German fraulein driving into the back of my van as I turned into Pitsford. No sign of life along Sermans, but we fished along the weed banks never the less.Ended up on the Gravels, where I saw a couple of fry feeders show, but only once each.Had some excitement when a grebe, unseen by me, took my minkie and battled away furiously, doing a good impression of a four pounder until it surfaced twenty seconds later.I managed to release it unharmed, being neatly hooked in the beak, but only after it had pecked me several times! My mate lost a large pike and then my waderboot decided to split, all the way along the sole. After wringing out sock and trouser leg we had a couple of hours at Ravensthorpe where I only caught a perch, but had lots of annoying taps to my flies.Better to have all your badl uck in one day I think!
Talking to the other four rods at Pitsford (all gave up by noon) there was a feeling that something isn't right at Pitsford. There was the inevitable talk of management not stocking enough but no real explanation as to the hard fishing this season.I've had some good days, but after the buzzer fishing it has been hard work on plenty of occasions.I took note of John Emerson in T&S forecasting a bumper back end: let us hope it isn't too late or wasn't just an effort to drum up more business- there was only one boat out yesterday.
