Most angler`s have caught fish on hawthorn`s,klinkhammer`s and knotted midge pattern`s.The best lure`s have been orange blob,white humungus and dawson`s olive.A lot of overwintered rainbow`s have been caught and some angler`s report losing as many fish off as they are landing.The water level isn`t a problem now as the level is less than 3 feet down and the bank`s are dry,so angler`s arn`t having any problem`s with mud.
From opening day to the end of april there has been 1043 angler visit`s.They have caught 5237 fish for a rod average of 4.9.The best rainbow to date is 15lb 5oz and the best brown 8lb 4oz.

145 angler`s have caught 518 rainbows to 10lb and 6 browns to 3lb.
rod average 3.6
149 rainbows were kept at an average weight of 2.5lb.

We had very strong SW wind`s with bright sunshine for the early part of the week and cloud with strong NW wind`s toward`s the weekend.As usual the weather forecast`s proved totally useless and unreliable.
John mcgarrell had an excellent week catching 74 rainbow`s in 3 visit`s all from a boat.John caught fish on orange blob`s and intermediate line when it was bright and windy,then when condition`s were right he caught on foam beetle,daiwl bach and buzzer`s.Graham hill was one of a number of angler`s who caught more than 10 fish from the bank.Graham had 25 from the dam wall with most of them falling to a shipman`s buzzer.

I went on Saturday to Lockwood Beck, wading out from the boat jetty I had 20 fish by 2pm, black worm, orange blob and cats whisker all on a midge tip. Biggest fish around 6lb which was returned, I kept 4 for 10lb.

Highlight of the day was watching the Osprey diving for fish.

Downer was the couple rowing their boat right through my swim

171 angler`s have caught 247 rainbow`s to 6lb and 4 brown`s to 2lb.


The fishing has been challenging but enjoyable.On some day`s the fish have been rising all day in front of angler`s,but catching them has been difficult.The angler`s that scale their tippet strength down seem to be the one`s that get the best of the sport.Lot`s of fish are getting hooked but a lot are being lost.I think the weather has had a lot to do with it.Most day`s it has been very warm and very bright,and as we all know the trout don`t like bright sunshine.On these bright day`s the place has often come alive on the evening as the sun begin`s to go down.Pick of the bunch where flies are concerned has been klinkhammer`s,cdc`s and buzzer`s,diawl bach`s and best of the lure`s has been orange blob`s.The fish are well spread around the reservoir and most area`s are producing.Let`s hope for a bit more cloud cover in the coming week`s.
