Farmoor 20 Sep 07
I fished Farmoor with 7 other anglers in a RAF league match last Thursday.
The weather was Westerly wind 10 knts with occasional sunny periods and a temperature of about 17 C. We were all in boats and due to the wind direction my partner and I elected to drift from the 5 buoy past the 6 buoy towards what I believe is called Stocky corner. Initial tactics were, due to the sun, was a Fast glass with an Orange Booby on the first dropper, and a green and black Viva on the 2nd and point. This produced 2 fish in the first hour, then during a cloudy period the fish started to rise and take natural insects off the surface. A change of tactics to a Floating line with 15 ft leader with a hopper and 2 Diawl Bachs produced a further 2 fish. My boat partner was now using a midge tip with a team of buzzers and a Booby on point. His tactic produced 6 fish all in the same drift area. For a change (the fish seemed to have gone off) we repositioned to the 3 marker and set up a drift to the left of the 4 Buoy and about 50 yds left of the Tower on a line towards the boathouse.Previous knowledge was utilised and as predicted between the 4 Bouy and Tower fish were encountered, a final 2 fish for my partner and 1 for myself. an extremely hungry fish who chased my booby all over the suface on the hang before being hooked. As the day progressed we eventually returned to the 5 buoy where using a Floating line with a team of 2 hoppers produced my final 3 fish. I finished 1st with 8 fish tot 15lb 11 oz and my boat partner 2nd with 8 fish 13.9 Our rod average was 4 for the day across 7 anglers.
As usual , all fish were fin perfect and fought like demons.
Thankyou to Roystan for his usual humour but more importantly his tips and advice.
If any of you out there have not tried Farmoor then now is the time to give it a bash. Boats are the way forward but the bank is producing fish.
(Who teaches trout just how far we can cast so as to top 2 yds further out ????)
