Default Farmoor 16.9.07

Arriving in the late morning, the strong, gusty south westerly wind persuaded me to fish past the boat jetty. It was bright to begin with but clouded up as the day went on.

Until evening came I saw very few fish rising. Tried fishing the surface layers with various flies and methods but without success. Switched to Di7 and Cat's Booby fished along the bottom and caught a nice 2.5lb rainbow. Although I persisted with this method, it brought no more fish.

As the light faded, a few more fish began to show on top. I lost one on a Diawl Bach fished washing line style. Then tried a single size 14 Black Shuttlecock emerger. This took one fish and provoked a couple of other aborted rises.

Two anglers nearby were catching fish on buzzers fished under an indicator and I heard that someone else had caught a few on Booby fished along the bottom.

All in all it was pretty challenging fishing, probably due to the imminent change in the weather.

Has the water cleared yet, there was a lot of suspended algae when I was there last. Hoping to give it a go tomorrow if conditions are right, moved a lot of fish last time, loch styling with a bibio and a pennell.

Yes, Geordie, the water is now clear. Yesterday I saw fish moving well out and I certainly saw the boats catching quite regularly. If we get any significant rainfall I would expect a big hatch of daddies. Let's hope so. Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Had one of my worst days on Farmoor. The conditions were not the best, bright sunshine but a reasonable wind should have made things easier. Others seemed to be catching on boobies or pulling lures while the bank fishers on Thames bank were picking up fish with the buzzer under a sight bob. I just couldn't work out what they wanted, loch styling when it clouded over later on still didn't even produce fish - think I'll take up golf!!!!!
Looking forward to when the fry feeders start, that'll have the bigger fish showing.

Geordie, take a look at my post after Saturday :

Forumites guide to fishing Farmoor

I am pretty confident that if you rotate through thiose methods you'll get a limit on most trips to Farmoor now.

This is my first season fishing the boat at Farmoor and I've made it my challenge to try and locate the big browns and rainbows I would sometimes see while fishing the booby later in the season. I've located a few features and I know these hold the bigger fish, just trying out different methods to try and entice them. My usual method of fishing from the bank would involve the booby or the sight bob buzzers, fishing near the moorings, farm bend or Thames bank. Most days these methods would result in my limit, sometimes by mid-day, and so I decided to change to the boat for something different. Farmoor has the potential to be a quality top of the water venue for boat fishers, unfortunately the fishing can almost be switched off with a bright sun.
Today I saw only 10-15 fish move on the top and the wind was preventing effective fishing of the features holding the better fish - but I'll be back.............. and when I find out the method for them biggies - watch this space.
