I was out on butterstone today in a services comp.and what a cracking day it turned out, when i left the harbour in the morning (boat partner failed to show),i had started with a midge tip and cormorants i tried this for 30 mins with no result, i then motored to the top of the loch, where i noticed that there was quite a fall of heather flies(bibio pomona) and the trout were onto them with a vengance.changed over to a floater and a couple of dry bibio's .wherein i promptly missed 4 fish

i then got a hookup.great take.but the fish just swam away and kept on going till it was in the reed's and i could'nt do a thing about it.followed my line into the reed to get my flies back and the point hook was straight

.i think maybe a good brown trout.
after missing another couple on the dries.

i changed to a couple of bibio snatchers .3rd cast i had my 1st of the day, over the next 90 minutes i got another 2 and lost a couple.they then went off.and i struggled for an hour. we then got a bit of cloud and wind and the bibio's appeared again.i went back to dry's as the snatcherers seemed to have lost their appeal . this time i only used 1 foam bibio and it worked a treat,i caught my last 3 fish on this +missed a few more.i had my limit with an hour to go.brilliant.i had noticed another couple of anglers on the dries and they appeared to be doing well.
when the tally came at the end there were 8 limits and a total of 78 fish for 141lb i'm pretty sure most anglers had a good day and it was good to have so many fish caught on the surface.

and also to watch the best angler of all 'the osprey ' take a fish.magic.
