Default Vyrnwy 2011

Any news on Vyrnwy yet ? All the other Welsh waters seem to have kicked off fairly well. Has anyone been to Vyrnwy or heard what's happening there this season ? Last year they were talking about dropping their engines and letting the punters sort their own out. Be grateful for any news.

Thanks for that Phil........Unlike Talyllyn the Vyrnwy chambermaids are also privy to what goes on outside the bedrooms !!!
Cheers

Thank's Mark.........
I understood they were planning kicking their engines into touch this year.....that obviously isn't the case. I'm thinking of popping up there next week to see how its fishing......I'll let you know how it performs. I take it there has been an early season stocking of rainbows !!

Could someone please let me know details for booking to fish here this coming Saturday? I'm torn between fishing here and Clewedog at the moment, so you could also help me make my mind up. Would like to know prices, who i contact and if i need to provide a life jacket as I dont have one. Also what the best way to get there is from Wrexham. Thanks

To book boats call Lake Vyrnwy hotel. Yes, you will need a lifejacket. I was there last weeekend with 3 friends and must say it was the best day's wild brown trout fishing from a boat I can remember. We fished the Whitegates end which you can fish straight down the middle of the lake. Everywhere else cast your flies as close to the banks as you dare (and watch the fish shoot up from the depth to grab them!).

Hi Mushywill...........both fisheries are fishing well at the moment. You'd need life-jackets at Vyrnwy, they rent jackets out .....I'm not sure about Clywedog, but I'd advise using one. Phone for Vyrnwy.......01691 870692
For Clywedog.......I'd suggest contacting 'red diawl' on the Clywedog thread for phone No.
Fished Vyrnwy last thurday 11am to 5pm ......changable wind all day didn't help. We had 20 odd to the boat...50 / 50 browns and rainbows. Some over-wintered rainbows....best fish to my boat partner...4lb 06oz. Intermediate lines and size 12 wet flies done all the damage for us. I think the Whitegate end is fishing better at the moment. Anywhere in the bay and down the far bank and into the next bay.
Good luck

Apart from the bay up at whitegates which is quite shallow all over and can be fished down the middle, fish very close to the banks as has been suggested and you wont go wrong. If you are not getting caught in the odd bush or bouncing your flies on a rock or two on the bank GET CLOSER.
