If you are meaning high newton in the lake district i fished it sunday 03/04/2011 its stuffed with fish my local club wadaa have just stocked all there waters if you are up round this neck of the woods i would suggest a trip to gyll head its about another 15 mins drive past high newton on the bowness on windermere road a cracking fishery with loads of little bays scattered around the fishery.

Check out the wadaa site below for directions etc

Hi mate, SharkeyP and I also fished it on Sunday (didn’t know we were in the company of another forum member 1sportfish !) .

See here Crippler Success!

And here Paul and Dave's Excellent Adventure!

We also fished Ghyll Head Friday (which had been stocked on Thu I believe). Both fished extremely well but I’d say High Newton had the edge, mainly because the Ghyll Head fish were willing takers on a sunken lure but more picky when on top. @ High Newton they were willing takers off the top layers, with solid takes to black buzzers around the dam area.

Cats Whiskers were working and at the end opposite the dam (get into the far bay) they were taking Damsel Lite (look it up on here) and small black tadpole again only needing to go down to about 5/6ft. Got a few on a floated beetle too but they wised up to that pretty soon.

No doubt SharkeyP can add something of his experience too.

"Canalkid"!
That's a good one! Bill1 fished it yesterday in wet conditions off the back of mine & Noeyedeer's experience. I had a great day there Sunday, for a wild looking res it's nowhere near as dour as you might expect. I'm not sure if you can call it stocky-bashing when you are using skinny black buzzers drifted in the stiff breeze but the scores would suggest that! At least half were overwintered fish but not weak or skinny.
If you are there for a few days then do try Ghyll Head too. Cat's pulled fairly fast got us off to a roaring start and sus-buzzers when the wiser fish responded to the midge hatch.

Wrap up warm and you'll have a great day.

SharkeyP

Hi Canada,
First time me and Dave had been. We were staying at a pub in Hawkshead with the same Wadaa deal. I can see why it's high on your list. I'm keen to fish it again but may be away in 3-4 weeks but keep us in the loop.

SharkeyP
