Well, we hummed and hawed about whether or not to venture out on what looked to be a dead loss of a day. In the end the prospect of not fishing for another week got the better of us so we went.

We arrived at the Dam at a rather late 11am and free drifted (no drogue) out on a surprisingly gentle N/W ripple considering the forecast. The initial set up was a Soldier Palmer on the top, Fiery Brown middle and a slim Silver Invicta on the point. First cast, one bump on the hang but no contact and nothing further until we reached the tail end of the boils when I must've hit a fish on the nose, it was on and off in a flash.
After a few changes I eventually hooked up with a nice Brown around the 1 1/2lb mark (returned) on the Silver Invicta. My boat partner had a lovely Brown of 3lb 12 on a red ribbed Diawl Cop and two Rainbows on the same. My second fish came to a red Buzzer on the boils.
We moved down towards the Causeway as the weather looked like breaking and managed to move a couple of fish on a Claret Bumble on the first drift but then the rain hit hard and we beat a hasty retreat to the boat dock having had an enjoyable few hours and not wanting it to end in a complete soaking.
Judging by the number of fish moved they were looking up but the cool breeze stopped them poking their noses too far up. Given a reasonable day I think they'd be up and at 'em. Bring on the Daddies!
