Default Ravensthorpe 7.8.07

Fished from 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. Very bright, warm and calm to begin with but in the afternoon conditions improved with cloud and a strong westerly breeze. There were lots of damsels around when it was warm but otherwise I couldn't see much else hatching.

Persisted with a couple of dries/emergers most of the time. Had plenty of rises but very few stuck. Very frustrating. Later on tried a washing line set-up but with a Mini-Muddler on the point rather than a Booby. This worked better. Most fish took the Muddler.

Had a bit of a drama when I hooked a good fish quite close to the dam. I'm pretty sure I hooked it in the mouth, but during the fight the hook slipped out and lodged at the base of the dorsal fin. Despite using fairly powerful gear, I had a hell of a job getting the fish to the net before the boat drifted onto the dam. Just made it! Fish at least 4lbs.

Back at the pontoon another angler revealed that he had had a lot of fish on Hoppers pulled back fast just under the surface. And I thought Hoppers were generally fished static with an occasional twitch to attract attention.

We fished Sunday and had eight between us and more than that came off.

We fished midge tips with green nymphs of various styles - cruncher, DB, damsel. It was blazing sunshine and after about 11.00 the best area was close to the dam with fish still in the top five feet. Heaven knows what it would be like if I ever get there on a cloudy day

The only place I know that is fishing well right now.
