Default Rutland opening week

Planing a trip down in opening week , always fished it from a boat ,but fancy giving the bank a crack , would any anglers reccomend it ? only ever fished it twice from the bank and did not really have much sport , ( high summer ),

Went to Rutland last year for the opening day and would love to be there this year but Im the wrong side of the planet, had a boat booked but we cancelled due to high winds, I dont think any boats went out until afternoon, I went on up to stocks and blanked!!...However the very same day the biggest Brown Trout of the season came out a to a bloke bank fishing with a floating line so there you go, go to worth a try, I have always found Rutland to be kind to me from the bank tho and have always caught more than in a boat.

Cheers

The bank should be good 1st week. The last 2 opening days there I've had 24 and 21, and that's moving around, not sitting on the same pod of fish all day.
The 24 was from 6 different places.
Have fun !!!

Nick

The bank can offer tremendous sport, but as Thor says it's best to keep moving. It's more fun that way too.

Most of my fishing recently has been on Rutland, and 95% of that from the bank and I reckon you should only need a floating line and waders that are okay for walking a good way in. Only 10 more days of the fast left...

Exclamation Rutland Water

We made it to Rutland for opening day last year and the boats definitely went out first thing and as one of my mates said some people would pay a lot of money for the adrenalin rush you got crossing the reservoir. I think the wind speed was 30 kph plus can any member put me right on this.

You are right. It was single man boats that were not allowed out.

Probably be a bit breezy but plenty of places with shelter, me and my lad will be there again. It has become a bit of a ritual over the last 10 years or so that we never miss opening day @ Rutland. Up until 4 years ago refused to fish anywhere until The Puddle opened always saw it as the start of the Trout season. Mellowed a little last few years with waters opening earlier and earlier.
