Me and my mate Tom are on Carron Valley in the morning (Friday). At least I hope so. The forecast is for pretty strong winds and sometimes the boats are not allowed out if it's too windy.

Tom and I had a good day at Carron Valley Reservoir today. Tom had 6, all rainbows for 19Lbs, including 1 of 6Lbs and 1 of 5Lbs 14ozs. I had 5 and returned 2 and all were rainbows with the smallest at 2Lbs plus.

There was a reasonably strong South wind, blowing towards the corner of the dam at the jetty and everbody seemed to be catching well along the bays towards the dam on the jetty side.

I got all but one of my fish on the fly below; an Octopus, with one fish taken on a cormorant. I had fish both on a floating line and a slow sinking slime line. However, most of our fish were taken on or near the surface. The area hard up against the dam wall seemed to be full of fish.

Tom had his fish on a variety of flies all fished on a Rio Midge Tip, but had his 2 largest fish on a bung fly rig with a buzzer and nymph suspended below. The 6Lb'er took the bung off the surface, which was orange and looked about the size of a cheerleader's pom pom

We started off fishing the 3 bays up the jetty side of the loch, where there was quite a bit of activity and Tom had one there and I lost one, and we had a few pulls. But we were asked to come up to the dam end of the loch for the afternoon due to the high wind being forecast. We also spent the first 2 hours fishing dry flies for the brown trout, before the wind came up, and caught and released a few.

So, everybody ended up fishing the first 2 bays up on the jetty side, or, drifting into the dam wall all along from the overflow to the corner nearest the jetty, where there were plenty fish being caught, particularly close in to the dam and the close to the shore between the jetty and the dam, or, the far corner of the dam, where there was a bit of shelter from the wind.

I didn't specifically count the boats out but there was around 7 to 9 boats. I only saw one bank angler.
