Default Farmoor 2nd August

Had a catch and release boat today (great value, £30 two rods); looked like ideal conditions, overcast and slight ripple but we only had a couple of fish on buzzers, taken on the hang, by midday. The wind picked up and we decided to motor upwind to the inlet corner, which now had a good ripple. The water here was much cleaner- downwind had a lot of colour and bright green algae.A few fish started to move, the swifts appeared and we had a couple on the buzzers, sub- surface. When wind lanes started to form we moved 20m to cover the fish that were working them- that paid off nicely.A red shuttlecock. fished low in the film was taken confidently and I ended up with seven fish before they all went down about 3.30. The fish were great quality and fought like tigers, bar the two I caught in the dirty water, which came in like lambs. We saw a few on the fry, but not in numbers worth targeting. All in all a satisfying day- we left at 4.30 but I wouldn't be surprised if there was another rise later.Farmoor seems to have fish that behave like they used to, ie rise when the buzzers hatch, work the wind lanes etc.
To be recommended, apart from the tracker they give you that bleeps all bloody day!!

We are planning a mini-social there on September 15th if anyone would like to join us. Last year it was daddy soup.

Hopefully some of you Farmoor regulars like Mugsy, Gads, EF Duck, Lampeter Exile can come along and join us.

I'll post again on this closer to the time, but we normally organise a BBQ at minimal cost. Last year there were a dozen of us and it was great fun to meet everyone.

Sounds as though you had a good day, GM. As you point out, the quality of the fish at Farmoor is exceptoinal and they need very little encouragement to feed at the surface.

In principle I am up for the social on 15th Sept, Charlie, but due to work commitments I could only make the afternoon at best. I won't forget last year's daddy hatch at Farmoor; I have never seen anything like it in my life. Let's hope for something like it this back end.

I shall just be back from France and the World Cup so I shall be well up for it!! maybe Chitlins and Hodge and Brundell will join us too!!
Gadus, I always avoid the "mud" when they are pumping, it tends to stifle the fishing anyway!! stockie corner is always a good bet when they are pumping.
Cheers

All,

Depending on my holiday (of which needs to be booked!), I'm up for a meet at Farmoor on the 15th September. Would be good to put faces to names!

Hello all, i have often thought of fishing at farmoor but never got round to it. This is mainly due to me never having fished from a boat and having no ressie kit as such. If you visit farmoor is there someone to show you the ropes??. just be nice to add another string to my bow.
cheers
Al.

Al it fishes very well from the bank too mate!! in fact the socials, and "daddy soup" are best fished from the bank!! But if you come down, you do not need anything other than your normal kit, the wardens issue you a lifejacket, emergency beacon, and give a full briefing!! the real beauty of Farmoor is its size, 240 acres ish, great place to learn without having to much water to get "lost" in, give us a shout when you are heading up, maybe able to help you mate, if not, come for the social, I am sure we will give you all the pointers you need.

Yes, I think it is a better bank fishery as it is so deep close in the fish come right within a few yards of the wall.

If you come on the 15th, you will get plenty of "advice" and you can also try out a few different rods in case you want to get a heavier outfit. Last year we had a right laugh and also caught mountains of fish.

Question Still On?

Hiya Charlie,

Is this social still on?

Only been to Farmoor once this year, and really itching to get back there and would be good to put faces to names from here.
