Picture courtesey of Scratch - Stocks 7/10/07

Hi,

Just thought I'd start a new thread on Stocks.

There have been a couple of threads about the fishery recently, and it may be worth trying to keep it all together if anyones interested?

I fished Stocks yesterday with Graylinghunter, and we used a boat to gain more mobility.

A cool grey overcast day with a strong breeze blowing down the length of the fishery.

While we were climbing into the boat 3 different anlgers on the bank were playing fish all at the same time which was nice to see and raised our expectations.

In summary we fished off Gull Island, along the Willlows and it was only along the Northern Shallows that we caught fish, well my friend did. The fish didn't appear to be taking properly and we had a couple of fish on for a few seconds - only for then to come off.

We finished the day with my friend taking 2 and me blanking.

Maybe we'd have done better just fishing from the bank?

I'll be back!

I fished there monday aft. Terrible day, bright for a few hours overcast later, but no takes for four hours both sub-surface ,down to 15 ft. and then on top.
Some men who had been boat fishing had also struggled all day and mused over the stocking levels /acre due to the place being full to the brim and why the car-park was very quiet.
Result......6 hours....1 pull... 1 fish
Fish sighted......5
I won't be returning,
Ken.

Fair comment, I have fished there possibly hundreds of times over the years, one year took out a season ticket, not in recent years however. In the past, if the levels rose, yes, the fish were spooked for a few days then normality returned. This time, it just didn't seem right ,however, I take on board what you are saying,
Tightlines,
Ken

are you not returning because you blanked or you didnt like the place?
unfortunatly you caught it on on a bad day, could i ask what you used and where you fished?,as steve has said the stocking is well up on last year and by reading the reports and returns it shows there are plenty of fish in there.

What you guys been doing? This is a fishing forum!!

Appreciate your feedback!

I always enjoy fishing Stocks as it's always so peaceful.

Steve, you are probably spot on!

We thought a boat would give us mobility to cover more water quicker, and while it did allow us to find a few fish, we dropped quite a few which would suggest they weren't really taking properly - despite ringing the changes! Well that's my excuse

3 anglers were into and caught fish between the jetty and the bay below the lodge as we were walking to the boat! I guess your heart jumps a beat and you think start thinking the fish having turned on and it'll be a fantastic day.

My experience on Stocks is that sometiomes I've struggled for 1 or 2 fish, and other times i've had exceptional fishing in fantastic surroundings.

If I struggle (no matter where I fish) I always try to learn something about the water and how it fishes.

I look forward to my next visit and keep an open and expective mind!

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated.

My fishing partner is trying to convince to me fish Stocks tomorrow, but as we'll be restricted with regards when we can fish, and based on the fishing being somewhat hit and miss at the moment, I think I'll try and convince him we should fish elsewhere.

If the weather settles then we'll be across asap, and will reconsider fishing it again next week.

Thanks again
