Default Lake of Menteith - 27 Jul

Was on the Lake today with Willster - we had a good day, despite a very contrary wind. 7 to the boat, and a few more lost or missed. Fish mainly in Gateside Bay, with one from Malling and one from Int bay. Daiwl Bachs and cormorants the best flies. The fish were in great condition.

Enjoyed meeting Bill (flyonly2007) from the forums - he had an even better day, but I'm sure he will tell you about it!

Regards,

Hi Dave,

It was also a pleasure for Tom and I to meet you and Willster today at the Lake.

Yes we had a good day with 13 to the boat. I had 5 and Tom had 8. All of ours were caught in Gateside Bay. I got all of mine on the top dropper of a 3-fly cast fished on a floating line. The fly was a size 12 Bibio with jungle cock cheeks. Tom was fishing a Rio midge tip line and had 5 on a size 12 Golden Olive Bumble and 3 on a Cormorant.

There were quite a few fish rising and casting to them nearly always resulted in a take, although we missed quite a few.

Tom had an unusual experience, where he was playing a rainbow and I was waiting to net it. With the fish near to the boat and hooked on the middle fly of his 3-fly cast, a "blue" shot up and grabbed the top dropper fly and the shock of the take snapped off the rainbow complete with fly and he then landed the blue.

Cheers,

Bill
