Chew at the end of August can be difficult. We fish it a wee bit later most years and the best areas are weather dependant, if it's hot the fish are deep or at the boils(aerators). The lodge give you all the gen on where to go and what to use. If you're lucky the hopper fishing can be superb, they like them figure of 8'd on the top, bow waves and all.
We've found Blagdon to fish better most years so don't rule this out, it's a more scenic loch and the fishing can be second to none on the wee stuff, buzzers and diawl bachs.

Chaps, report at http://www.bristol-water.co.uk/fishi...hingReport.asp
Been good when the weather is favourable, rough in the wind and rain.
Red dry fly in the evenings and overcast. Diawl bachs etc. on washing line over the weed.
I'm fishing this Wednesday evening, will let you know how it goes.
Cheers, Mark

I fished Chew on Wednesday - the weather was pretty rough. Still, myself and my boat partner had a good day. We had well over twenty fish to the boat between us (returning them obviously). It is very weedy, but if you can knuckle down and fish through it, the takes will come.

I fished hoppers on a slime line - had fish throughout the day. My partner fished nymphs - same for him, throughout the day. We finished fishing at around quarter past six I guess - the last couple of hours, drifting from villice alongside the cages and out into the open water - nunnery on rhs and woodford on lhs - were excellent. I had fish after fish coming to the hoppers. What made us laugh was a comment we heard between two other boats fishing in the same area - 'they must be using blobs' - why??!! Because we were catching lots of fish and that is the only way to catch lots??!! We laughed at that, because it almost implied superiority on their part - they weren't going to resort to those horrid blob things. Well, we weren't! We were fishing good and traditional - chew fish love it in a wave!

So, big wave = hoppers chaps. Enjoy yourselves because we did!

good to hear that chew is fishing well, was due to try there for a few fish this avvo, but my boat partner has bailed out (the jessie is scared of a bit of wind and p**s) think i'll try the upper river chew instead, but good to know the reservior is in tip top shape, last fished there in may and took 3 largish fish (4lb plus) from the back of the island on a sink tip fishing black pennels with a northerly wind blowing, never underestimate a trad wet pattern at this venue

all the best
