Default Loch Glow

Anyone fished up here recently? It's been a good few weeks since I was last up and was wondering how it was fishing just now. Our club are up on Saturday.

Cheers

Default Loch Glow

That brings back memories from many years back.

Loch Glow is a hill loch between Kelty and Steelend and Saline off to the right of the B914 near to the junction of the B915. It used to be a very wild place to fish and the hills around it are one of the very few places in the area that used to have Black Cocks (the birds!!).

You can drive right up to it. I've never heard of it for many years but it used to be a dour place.

There's also a very small loch on the way up to it hidden in amongst the trees to the right which was full of small trout and great sport with the fly.

You're absolutely right capeldrae it's not the place to go early in the season from what I remember.

It's a great water as long as it's not too windy to stand. It's a civil service water that allows bait and spinning as well as fly fishing. It's mainly bank fishing but the have afew boats available to fly fishers. It's a great top of the water place and I've never fished it when there hasn't been fish rising. It's stocked with rainbows averaging about 1 - 1 /14lb but it has a lot bigger fish in it and a good head of browns. Best of all is the 6 fish limit for £8
I'll post a note of how we get on and if I remember to take the camera, I'll post a couple of photos. Last year our club weighed in about 80 fish between 20 of us - with 90% of the fish being taken on dries so I hope we get as good a day on Saturday.

Hi Wiremill,

How do you go about getting a ticket for Loch Glow?. I'd like to go back after all these years.

There's a caravan in the car park next to the loch Bill. It's open from about 8:00am til dusk. It's usually busy at the weekends with bait guys but there's plenty of room if you walk round towards the west end.

Thanks for that John.

Remind me - is there a small loch at the far side. I think I remember about 40 years ago, when it was howling a gale, I went to fish a small loch on the far side of Loch Glow and I caught a beauty of a brown trout at 3lbs. Is that small loch still there and is it fishable?
