I had a carp out of one of the trout lakes earlier in the season on a PTN. I was shocked at how eagerly it took the fly. Incidentally, I was talking to Brian at Press last night and he informed me the trout lake was fishing well. I was on the coarse lake mind, fishing for carp. Variety is the spice of life, or so they say.

Hi Del

I fished Barlow on saturday, i've not been for a while and fancied a few hours without having to travel. I started on pond 1 and had plenty of sport with a short tailed, olive coloured damsel nymph. But eventually I grew bored. Damsel nymphs are highly effective at Barlow (And elsewhere) but it's not my favorite method, to be honest it can be a bit boring.

Nothing was rising so I moved down onto the second lake and then the third. I know Rex has always had 7 or 8 large grass carp in each lake but every time I go now, he seems to have added more common, leather and mirrors. When I go t to the third lake I noticed a reddy orange glow through the polaroids. To my horror I saw a shoal of 6 - 8" koi! I then went on to spy, the shoal of grass carp, at least 12 small common carp, several golden orfe and a handful of what appeared to be golden rudd. And a few ordinary rudd!!!

I suspect they have something to do with the ornamental / koi operation they have there. It's not good to see though. They belong next door in the coarse fishery. Next time I go, i'll be taking a thick polythene bag for the koi and a copy of Stella's carp taco recipe!!!

If you fancy a day at Press Manor, give me a call.

Regards
MJ
