I was up at Chew last weekend and it was pretty difficult, though fish were pretty high up in the water. Dries were catching (particularly in the middle of the lake when calm) and nymphs just sub-surface were doing well.

There is a lot of weed over much of the lake, so dry fly and washing-line nymphing has been popular. Some large fish have been coming out and if you fancy the suinking line approach then head to Villace Bay (near the cages) and you may latch into a monster lurking in the depths ( a double figure specimen was landed a couple of weeks ago on a blob, though equally big fish have been caught on diawl bachs, etc).

Not sure about the bank, i'm pretty much boat-only at Chew, but try http://www.rutlandgillies.co.uk/reports/bristol.html for the latest info.

If you haven't fished them much before, I would suggest going to the Barrows. Many reckon them to be the best bank fishng offered by Bristol water. For bank fishing, Chew would be the last of the three Bristol waters that I would try (after the Barrows and Blagdon).
