Default Boringwheel, Sussex

Fished Boringwheel last night on their three-hour two fish ticket. First time I've fished here so opted for the free punts and rowed over to the far bank, and was surprised how shallow it was. Tried a small GRHE, then a PTN, buzzer (not buzzers as single fly only), not a sniff. The odd fish were showing on the surface but not enough to warrant fishing a dry for a prolonged period. So opted for fishing an orange blob (most in the book had caught on something orange) and had a follow second cast, then nothing for half an hour.

Changed to a cat’s whisker, but still nothing, so back to the blob. Into the last hour and finally hooked a small rainbow off about 1.5 pound. Long and lean, like an over wintered fish. Continued with the blob, then nothing for 40mins, but with ten mins left hooked a large, very large fish….which snapped me off. Just set the hook, it turned, and ping! Lost what looked and felt like a big fish, and lost my favourite blob too! Of which I only had one in that pattern!

Tied on another orange blob, five mins left, short jaggy, then fast retrieve, bang, scrappy fight and a lovely plump 3.8 pound fish in the net. All over!

Boringwheel is a lovely place to relax after work, and good to see fish with tails too. Not a mark on them. The large fish is now in the butchers being smoked so will look forward to that next week!
