Hi guys,

off to carsington on tues. Usual questions, if anyone can help, as ive never fished it before. Taking a boat. So basically.......Where to head for? What tactics, and flies that should do the business. Thanks in advance.

carsington water

Ask the rangers where the fish are, they are usually spot on. Fuish will be quite close in so work parallel to the banks, or dirfts into bays and onto the shore.

Don't just anchor up somewhere, fish on the drift until you find fish, then you can anchor or drift again.
Montana is my favorite fly, but claret dabblers and bibios work well as do buzzers and diawl bachs. I would think that a floating line would be best bet, but also tackle up with a sinking line with small lures (cats whisker, black lure and blobs) will do the business.

Keep seeking and you shall find.

It's a great water and you will want to go back again and again.

Let me know how you get on.

Carsington Water Fishing Report
Week Ending 3rd June

Number of Returns: 86
Number of fish: 413
Rod Average: 4.80

Best Rainbow: 4lb 2oz Best Brown: 3lb
Caught By: Phil Harding Caught By: Robert Turner
Fly: GRHE Fly: Cormorant
Area: Stones Island Area: Millfields

Report:
Well it would appear that summer has arrived. The weather has been nice for the half term week with temperature creeping in to the 20’s and the wind not getting up beyond a force 4. The large shoals of Rudd have moved into the shallows and fish from 1 inch to 6 inches can be seen swimming alongside the Perch that have moved in with them.
The fishing has been good with not only trout being caught but also several Roach (one of an estimated 2lb), Perch to 2lb+ and another pike of an estimated 20lb! Congratulations to Robert Oldfield for landing this monster from in front of the Dam.
Regular angler Phil Harding landed this weeks biggest rainbow trout an excellent fish of 4lb 2oz. Phil tempted this fish from the shelf at the back of Stones Island using a GRHE and a slow figure eight retrieve. This was Phil’s best fish from an impressive bag of 6 with only one weighing under 2lb (1lb 12oz).
Honours for the best Brown Trout go to Robert Turner. Robert caught his cracking 3lb Brown from the bank at Millfields. Using a cormorant to imitate the small fry in the water Robert landed 7 other trout in his afternoon session including a 3lb 8oz rainbow.

Top Spots this week have been Brown Ale Bay, Tower Bank, Stones Island, Upperfields and the Dam in the Boats and Millfields and Upperfields Bay from the Bank.

Top Flies include: Olive/Black/Grey Buzzers, Montanta, PTN, GRHE, Pink Blob, Cormorant’s, Damsels and Daddy Long Legs

Ok, so, visited Carsington for the first time yesterday, with a mate of mine. We had a nice day. I had 7 fish, and my mate had one. We never really "found the fish" They all seemed to come at different times, if you know what i mean (no 4 fish in 20 mins, cos we had found a shoal). Its a massive water (by my standards, anyway). The fish were all of a nice size, and gave you a great fight. The wind had changed round apparantly, and was not from a favourable direction, so maybe thats why it was a little slow. Not a lot was working until i put on "Roddy's glass bead damsel"......You're a life saver Roddy. It took 6 of the fish for me. I only had the one, so couldn't give my mate one to help him out. Great fly though!!. Tried other stuff, but to no avail. Would go again though, nice day.

Default Banjo

Cool dont forget your banjo mate and try to remain seated and stay on the boat till the squeeling stops . Thats what you call a double whammy - fishing boobies while listening to Dolly Parton

Arrow Carsington Water Fishing Report 10th June - not much bank fishing again

Number of Returns: 109
Number of fish: 230
Rod Average: 2.11

Best Rainbow: 4lb 3oz Best Brown: 3lb
Caught By: Mr Oliver Caught by MrClements & Mr Rogers
Fly: Black Nymph Fly: Black Buzzer, Black & Gold Fry
Area: Tower Bank Area: Tower Bank & Hall Wood

Mr Oliver 4lb 3oz Rainbow Mr Clements 3lb Brown

Report:
A great week for sunbathing! Blue skies and flat clams have been the main feature this week. The water temperature has reached 17 degrees now and this, combined with the difficult conditions, has meant patience has been the key. Slow fished or static buzzers and nymphs fished around 10 – 15 feet has been the most consistent method.
The best rainbow this week goes to Mr Oliver who landed a cracking 4lb 3oz fish from his boat off Tower Bank. Using a floating line and a team of buzzers with a black nymph on the point he was fishing some 60yards of the shore when the tip of his line started to move away and he struck. After several heart stopping moments his boat partner finally netted this superb trout and brought it aboard.
Honours for best Brown are shared by Mr Clements (Mr Oliver’s boat partner) and Mr Rogers. Both anglers landed Brown trout of 3lb exactly. Mr Clements also caught his fish from Tower bank using a floating line and a team of buzzers. Mr Rogers Caught his fantastic Brownie from the North end whilst drifting along Hall Wood Bank using a Black and Gold fry Pattern.

Top Spots this week have been Tower Bank, Sheepwash, Brown Ale Bay, Hall Wood & Middle Wood in the Boats and Millfields and Upperfields Bay from the Bank.

Top Flies include: Olive/Black/Grey Buzzers, Montanta, PTN, GRHE, Black & Gold fry, Cormorant’s, Damsels and Daddy Long Legs
