Default Bewl fishing conditions & help

Has anyone fished Bewl in the last week, thinking of going on Saturday and was wandering how it has been fishing of late with all the rain we have had? Does that normally have any affect there ? Excuse my ignorance, normally fish rivers and just getting into the Bewl experience, have had a couple of trips there in the last 6 months and we are keen to try out our new 10ft #7 Vision Attack fly rods that got an excellent review in Trout & Salmon.

What flies are working best, just started fly tying so would like to knock up a few of the "simpler" patterns that are fishing well. Tied a few cormorants last night, any other suggestions ??

Will be fishing from a boat if we go and any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Nick

Default Bewl

Hi Nick

Have fished Bewl 4 times in the last couple of weeks and it has gone from being very easy to dire and back to tricky. Tactics have varied from nymphs on a long leader to Di3 and washing line to pulling nasties on a Di5. Each tactic will work on the day but I think wind and the speed the boat is drifting determines what to use.

Areas to try are the main bowl (right across), Chingley, Monty's Seat and the various bays down Bewl Straight.

The best clue for you will be the other boats as there is an England eliminator on Saturday but whatever you do don't anchor up in front of them! It's a tactic that the anchored boats are using more and more (you know who you are) and not only is it bad etiquette but it is really starting to p*ss the competition guys off. Just join the drifts and keep an eye on what they are doing. You'll see more of what is going on with the boats in front of you.

Tight lines

Gillaroo,

Thanks for all that, very interesting to hear about the England eliminator on Saturday, will have to take a pair of binoculars with us to spy the best tactics for the day.

Booked our boat last night and cant wait !
